Dhaka, May 18 (V7N) — Bangladesh Railway has announced that advance train tickets for journeys scheduled around the holy Eid-ul-Azha from May 28 onward will be sold subject to the sighting of the moon, as no intercity trains will operate on Eid day itself.

According to the railway’s operational plan, tickets for May 28, 29 and 30 journeys will depend on the official Eid date declared by the national moon sighting committee. If Eid-ul-Azha falls on May 28, tickets for journeys on May 29 and 30 will be released online immediately after the announcement.

Ahead of Eid, Bangladesh Railway has already completed the sale of advance tickets for intercity train journeys from May 23 to May 27. Tickets for May 23 journeys were sold on May 13, while tickets for May 24, 25, 26 and 27 were sold on May 14, 15, 16 and 17 respectively.

Meanwhile, return journey ticket sales are scheduled to begin from May 21. Under the announced schedule, tickets for May 31 journeys will be sold on May 21, while tickets for June 1, 2, 3 and 4 journeys will be sold on May 22, 23, 24 and 25 respectively.

Railway authorities said each passenger will be allowed to purchase only one advance Eid journey ticket per trip, with a maximum of four tickets allowed in a single transaction. The authorities also reiterated that advance Eid tickets will be non-refundable.

In response to passenger demand, Bangladesh Railway has also decided to reserve 25 percent of total seats — excluding upper-class categories — for sale directly from station counters on the day of travel as standing or seatless tickets.
