Dhaka, May 18 (V7N) — The final decision on the celebration date of Eid-ul-Azha (Eid-ul-Qurbani) in Bangladesh is expected to be announced on Monday evening following a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee.
According to a press release from the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh issued on Sunday (May 17), the committee will meet at 6:45 pm at the Baitul Mukarram conference room in Dhaka to determine the sighting of the moon of the Islamic month of Zil-Hijjah 1447 Hijri and finalize the Eid date.
The meeting will be chaired by Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad.
Officials said the announcement of Eid-ul-Azha will be made based on verified moon sighting reports from across the country.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that the moon of Zil-Hijjah has already been sighted in Saudi Arabia on Sunday, with Eid-ul-Azha expected there on May 27 (10th Zil-Hijjah). Several countries including Oman, Indonesia, and Malaysia have also announced they will observe Eid on the same date.
The final confirmation for Bangladesh will depend on the official moon sighting decision tonight.
