Dhaka, May 19 (V7N) — Water Resources Minister and BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie has called for prioritizing the welfare of genuine students and moving away from what he described as “non-political activities” in the name of student politics.
He made the remarks while speaking at a program held at the University of Dhaka on Tuesday (May 19). The minister said that individuals who have damaged the image of student politics in the past have already been removed from the system and urged all stakeholders to learn from those experiences.
He also highlighted ongoing environmental concerns, stating that irregular maintenance and discontinuation of canal excavation projects have contributed to increased encroachment and waste-related problems affecting rivers and waterways.
At the same event, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku assured that the country has sufficient cattle stock ahead of the upcoming Eid season, reducing the need for imports.
He said Bangladesh currently has around 12.2 million cattle against a demand of approximately 12.3 million, adding that efforts are underway to meet domestic needs fully and potentially export livestock.
The state minister also urged caution among buyers, warning them to avoid purchasing stolen or illegally sourced cattle during the Eid-ul-Azha sacrificial period, with strict monitoring planned along border areas.
