Dhaka, May 23 (V7N) – Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman has said that a chargesheet in the rape and murder case of child Ramisa in Pallabi could be filed before Eid-ul-Azha if the DNA report is received within 72 hours.

He made the remarks during a meeting held at the BRAC Centre in Mohakhali, Dhaka, on Saturday (May 23) morning.

The Law Minister said that DNA evidence is crucial in such sensitive cases and emphasized that filing a chargesheet without it could make the trial questionable. He added that authorities expect to receive the DNA report within 72 hours.

He further stated that if the chargesheet is completed before Eid, the trial process could begin immediately after the holiday, which he said would help meet public expectations for swift justice.

The minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring a speedy trial in the case.

The incident refers to the murder of seven-year-old Ramisa, whose body was recovered from a residence in Pallabi on May 19. Police later arrested tenant Sohel Rana from Narayanganj, who reportedly gave a confessional statement in court, along with his wife Swapna Akhter.
