Dhaka, May 28 (V7N)- The main congregation of the holy Eid-ul-Azha was held peacefully at the National Eidgah Maidan in Dhaka on Thursday morning, with President Md. Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman participating alongside thousands of worshippers.

The Eid congregation began at 7:30 am as scheduled and was led by Mufti Muhammad Abdul Malek, Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

Chief Justice Zubair Rahman Chowdhury, cabinet members, politicians, diplomats, judges, intellectuals, senior government officials and people from different walks of life also joined the prayers. Around 35,000 worshippers attended the main congregation.

After the Eid prayers, special prayers and supplications were offered seeking peace, prosperity and welfare for the country, the nation and the Muslim Ummah worldwide.

Following the prayers, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman exchanged Eid greetings with President Md. Shahabuddin and later greeted members of the public present at the Eidgah.

Earlier, both the President and the Prime Minister conveyed Eid-ul-Azha greetings to Muslims across Bangladesh and around the world.

This year, 121 prayer rows were arranged at the National Eidgah. Separate arrangements were made for very important persons (VIPs), where around 250 men and 80 women offered prayers. In addition, facilities were arranged for approximately 31,000 male and 3,500 female worshippers among the general public.

Tight security measures were taken surrounding the Eid congregation, with members of police, RAB and other law enforcement agencies deployed across the venue.

Meanwhile, the first Eid congregation at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque was held at 7:00 am. The remaining congregations are scheduled for 8:00 am, 9:00 am, 10:00 am and 10:45 am.
