Netrokona, Jul 03 (V7N) — State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salah Uddin Tuku has announced that the country's haors, rivers and other water bodies will remain open under the government's 'Jal Jar, Jla Tar' (Water Belongs to Those Who Depend on It) policy, allowing fishermen and haor-dependent farmers to fish freely.

He made the announcement while inaugurating a fish fry release programme at Khattakpur Haor in Madan upazila of Netrokona on Friday afternoon.

The State Minister said the government is releasing fish fry into various rivers, haors and other water bodies to conserve fisheries resources and increase fish production across the country.

He said the initiative would help restore fish stocks while ensuring greater economic benefits for fishermen and farmers who depend on the haor ecosystem for their livelihoods.

State Minister for Road Transport and Railways Habibur Rashid Habib, local Member of Parliament and former State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfuzzaman Babar, along with local officials and public representatives, attended the programme.

Later, the two state ministers visited several haor areas in the Khaliajuri, Madan and Mohanganj upazilas of Netrokona to inspect ongoing fisheries and development activities.
