Dhaka, Jul 11 (V7N) — The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-4) has arrested a death row convict who escaped from Kashimpur High-Security Central Jail during the violence and arson incident in August last year.

The information was disclosed at a press briefing held at the RAB-4 headquarters in Dhaka on Saturday.

According to RAB, the arrested convict has been identified as Md. Abdullah Sikder, a resident of Tungipara in Gopalganj district. He was apprehended during a raid in the Darus Salam area of the capital on Friday afternoon based on confidential information.

RAB officials said Abdullah Sikder and three others were sentenced to death by a court in 2021 for murdering a man with a hammer and an axe over a dispute involving interest-related money.

Following his arrest, the convict was handed over to the concerned police station for further legal proceedings.

According to RAB, Abdullah Sikder escaped from Kashimpur High-Security Central Jail on August 6, 2024, during an incident of violence and arson in which several inmates allegedly fled by using a makeshift ladder fashioned from a broken electric pole.

After escaping, he reportedly remained in hiding in different parts of the country while disguising his identity to evade law enforcement.
