Dhaka, Jul 20 (V7N)- Bangladesh has formally requested the Indian government to extradite former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, who was sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal in a case related to crimes against humanity during the July mass uprising.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently sent an official letter to the Indian government seeking the return of Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. A copy of the death sentence verdict issued by the International Crimes Tribunal has also been sent along with the request.
According to officials, the extradition request is part of the government’s legal process to bring back individuals convicted in cases related to serious crimes.
Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun were accused in a case filed over crimes against humanity committed during the July-August 2024 mass uprising.
After completing the judicial proceedings, International Crimes Tribunal-1 delivered its verdict on November 17, 2025.
The tribunal found Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal guilty of crimes against humanity and sentenced both to death. Meanwhile, former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who acted as a state witness in the case, was sentenced to five years in prison.
