DHAKA, July 28, V7N– The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of th Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested two people in a raid in the city's Kadamtali area and seized a large quantity of counterfeit currency along with equipment used to produce fake banknotes.
The arrestees were identified as Md Shahab Uddin, 43, and Hajera Akter Ritu, 30.
According to police, a team from the CTTC's Transnational Crime Division conducted a special drive at a rented house at lane 5, Palashpur Gas Road, under Kadamtali Thana on Sunday night, where the two suspects were nabbed, said DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Niaz Mehdi today.
During the operation, police recovered counterfeit banknotes worth about Taka 2.58 lakh, a laptop, a colour printer, and various materials allegedly used to manufacture fake currency, including specialised dies, special ink, and security thread paper.
CTTC sources said Md Shahab Uddin has five previous cases filed against him under the Special Powers Act at Ramna, Tejgaon, and Mohammadpur police stations in the capital.
A case has been filed against the two arrestees under the Special Powers Act with Kadamtali Police Station. Police said efforts are underway to identify and arrest the other members of the counterfeit currency syndicate.
