COX’S BAZAR, July 28 (V7N) – A joint operation led by the Bangladesh Army in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar has resulted in the arrest of three suspected criminals, including the son and bodyguard of a local top-listed terrorist, along with a large cache of firearms, ammunition, and communication equipment.

The operation was conducted at around 2:00 am on Tuesday in Ward No. 1 of Balukhali area under Palongkhali Union in Ukhiya, based on specific intelligence information.

According to a press release issued by Ramoo Cantonment on Monday night, an elite team of the Bangladesh Army, along with members of other law enforcement agencies, conducted the operation and detained Mohammad Amin, son of local criminal leader Zulu alias Zulu Dakait, his bodyguard Jane Alam, and another Bangladeshi national.

The press release stated that the detained individuals had allegedly been involved for a long time in various criminal activities, including robbery, kidnapping, extortion, mugging, arms display, and other forms of violence in the Rohingya camps and surrounding local areas.

The operation was carried out to maintain peace and security in the area and to curb the activities of identified criminals, the statement added.

During the raid, security forces recovered one foreign-made pistol, one AK-22 rifle, one locally made pistol, two single-barrel guns, two locally made sharp weapons, one pistol magazine, two rifle magazines, four rounds of pistol ammunition, 89 rounds of rifle ammunition, two cartridges, and two walkie-talkie sets.

The three detainees, along with the recovered weapons and ammunition, were handed over to Ukhiya Police Station for further legal action.

Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Atikur Rahman confirmed the incident, saying that a joint force led by the Bangladesh Army recovered a large quantity of arms, ammunition, and communication equipment during the operation. He added that legal proceedings against the detainees were underway.

The Bangladesh Army said it remains committed to protecting public safety, maintaining law and order, and safeguarding national security. It added that such coordinated operations against terrorism, sabotage, and criminal activities would continue in the future.
