Dhaka, July 28 (V7N)- The Election Commission (EC) is fully prepared to conduct the presidential election, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said.
He made the remarks after a meeting between the Election Commission and Acting Speaker Kaiser Kamal at the Parliament Building on Tuesday (July 28) afternoon.
The CEC said the date of the presidential election will be fixed soon and published through a gazette notification. He also said that the Election Commission has requested the voter list from the Parliament Secretariat.
Earlier, the meeting started at 11 am at the Speaker’s office. According to the constitutional procedure, the CEC met with the Acting Speaker before announcing the election schedule.
As per the existing system, the President of Bangladesh is elected through the votes of members of parliament. For this purpose, the Parliament Secretariat will provide the list of MPs to the Election Commission Secretariat.
Based on that list, the EC will prepare the voter list for the presidential election. After completing the necessary procedures, the Election Commission will announce the election schedule.
