Dhaka, Aug 03 (V7N) – The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has announced tax incentives for individual taxpayers who submit their income tax returns early, offering a rebate of up to Tk 25,000 for returns filed by September 30.

In a press release issued on Sunday (August 2), the NBR said the incentives are being introduced under the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 2023 to encourage timely filing of tax returns and improve tax administration.

According to the NBR, individual taxpayers and members of Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) who file their income tax returns between July 1 and September 30 will receive a tax rebate equal to 5 percent of the tax payable, subject to a maximum benefit of Tk 25,000.

Taxpayers who submit their returns between October 1 and December 31 will not receive the rebate but will be exempt from late-filing penalties.

However, returns filed after December 31 will be subject to additional tax. Those filing between January 1 and March 31 will have to pay an additional 2 percent of the tax payable or Tk 3,000, whichever is higher. For returns submitted between April 1 and June 30, the additional tax will be 5 percent of the tax payable or Tk 5,000, whichever is higher.

The NBR said the incentive is intended to encourage taxpayers to submit returns at the beginning of the filing period, helping strengthen the culture of timely tax compliance while making tax administration more efficient and disciplined.

The board also noted that its e-return service for the 2026–27 tax year has been available since July 22, allowing individual taxpayers to submit returns online from home through the e-tax platform.

Taxes can also be paid electronically through bank transfers, debit and credit cards, as well as mobile financial services including bKash, Nagad and Rocket.

After successfully filing an online return, taxpayers can immediately download their return receipt and income tax certificate. The NBR added that assistance is available through its call centre and other electronic support channels during government working days for anyone facing difficulties with the online filing process.
