Dhaka, August 5 (V7N)- Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan on Wednesday said the July Charter will be implemented and Bangladesh's future will be built as a democratic and prosperous state in the spirit of the July Uprising.
He made the remarks after laying wreaths at the July Martyrs' Memorial in Shahbagh, Dhaka, on the occasion of July Uprising Day.
Speaking to reporters, the minister said the day is marked by both mourning and celebration.
"Today is not only a day of grief but also a day of joy and victory. After 18 years of bloodshed on the streets, fascism came to an end on August 5," he said.
Ahmed Azam Khan also urged all political parties, including the BNP, which he said had long been involved in movements on the streets, to remain united and avoid division.
He further said a new chapter of change had begun in the country under the BNP-led government. The minister offered prayers for the souls of those who lost their lives during the July Uprising and wished a speedy recovery to those who were injured.
State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraq Hossain, who was present at the ceremony, said the government has not forgotten the martyrs and participants of the July movement.
He also warned against any attempts to create instability in the country, saying such conspiracies should be resisted through the united efforts of the people.
