Sylhet, Aug 06 (V7N)- State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam has said that local government elections will be held at five levels within the current fiscal year.

He made the remarks on Thursday afternoon while inspecting the secondary transfer station of waste management of Sylhet City Corporation at Parairch in Sylhet.

The State Minister said the Local Government Division, Finance Department and the Election Commission will hold discussions to determine which level of local government elections will be conducted first.

Commenting on political issues, Mir Shahe Alam said former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina currently has no opportunity to return to Bangladesh. He added that if she returns to the country, she will face arrest.

During the inspection, Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury, Sylhet-3 MP MA Malek, and senior officials of the city corporation were present.

The government is expected to finalize the election schedule and sequence after consultations among the concerned authorities.
