Dhaka, Sep 01 (V7N)- BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid tribute at the graves of the party's founder, late President Ziaur Rahman, and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia on the occasion of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party's 48th founding anniversary.
Tarique Rahman visited their graves in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Tuesday morning and placed wreaths in their memory.
Senior BNP leaders accompanied the party chairman during the visit. They also took part in a special prayer at the graves.
After the tribute, BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the Bangladesh Nationalist Party is closely connected with the hopes and aspirations of the people.
He said the party was established with the determination to protect the country's independence, strengthen its sovereignty and restore democracy. According to Rizvi, BNP has remained committed to fulfilling its promises to the people.
The BNP is observing a five-day programme marking its 48th founding anniversary.
As part of the programme, the party flag was hoisted at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan and party offices across the country at 6am on Tuesday.
The party has also arranged various programmes throughout the day, including tree plantation drives, to mark the anniversary.
