Dhaka, Sep 15 (V7N)- State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid has said women and children in Bangladesh are bearing the greatest impacts of climate change.
She made the remarks while speaking to journalists after attending a discussion titled “Climate Diplomacy” as the chief guest at the CIRDAP auditorium in the capital on Tuesday (September 15).
Shama Obaid said Bangladesh bears little responsibility for the climate crisis but is among the countries suffering its consequences. She said the government will work at the international level to secure direct grants as compensation for climate-related losses and impacts.
She also called on developed and major countries to come forward and play a stronger role in helping vulnerable nations address the effects of climate change.
The State Minister said Bangladesh will strongly advocate at the upcoming COP conference for greater international action to protect women and children from climate-related impacts.
She added that Bangladesh will also promote increased use of environmentally friendly jute products as part of efforts to address climate challenges.
