Dhaka, Sep 20 (V7N)- Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen paid a farewell call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.
During the meeting, Humayun Kabir praised Yao Wen's contribution to strengthening Bangladesh-China relations and his engagement in Bangladesh during his diplomatic tenure. He also appreciated the ambassador's role in facilitating the successful visit of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to China.
The state minister said Bangladesh-China relations had reached a new level during Yao Wen's tenure, with both sides pursuing several new institutional mechanisms, including a proposed state minister-level 2+2 dialogue.
Yao Wen said serving in Bangladesh for three years and nine months had been a great honor for him. He also congratulated Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman on his election as President of the United Nations General Assembly, describing the achievement as a matter of pride for Bangladesh.
The outgoing ambassador reaffirmed China's continued support for Bangladesh's development and progress. He also said the Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC) is interested in visiting Bangladesh later this year.
Yao Wen noted that the Chinese official has a longstanding connection with Bangladesh, as his father previously served as China's ambassador to the country and presented his credentials to then-President Ziaur Rahman.
The two sides expressed confidence that Bangladesh-China relations would continue to deepen and expand. Humayun Kabir thanked Yao Wen for his contributions during his tenure and wished him success in his new assignment.
