Dhaka, Sep 20 (V7N)- Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has expressed hope that the trial in the murder case of 13-year-old Ishayat Shahriar Apratim in Cumilla will be completed swiftly, similar to the expedited proceedings in the Ramisa murder case. He said police would provide full cooperation in the investigation and trial.
Speaking at a briefing at the Secretariat on Sunday (September 20), the minister said the incident had deeply shocked people across the country.
He said Apratim's body was recovered within 24 hours of his disappearance and four suspects had been arrested in connection with the case. According to the minister, the suspects had confessed to their involvement and were acquaintances of the victim.
Salahuddin Ahmed said police had secured evidence related to the incident and praised law enforcement officials for their handling of the case.
He expressed hope that the court would complete the judicial proceedings quickly, drawing a comparison with the Ramisa murder case, in which the investigation and trial proceedings were expedited.
The minister also said that social factors, including drug abuse, can contribute to serious crimes. He said the government was undertaking awareness programs at the school level, including cultural and sports activities, as part of efforts to address such issues.
He further said that social deterioration has been a long-standing concern and emphasized the need for broader public awareness initiatives alongside legal action against serious crimes.
Meanwhile, police have continued their investigation into Apratim's death. Four suspects are now in custody, according to the Home Minister, and the authorities say further legal proceedings are underway.
