Dhaka, Sep 22 (V7N)- The government has increased fares for diesel-operated buses and minibuses by 17 poisha per kilometer following the latest rise in fuel prices.
The Road Transport and Highways Division issued a notification on Tuesday (September 22), signed by Assistant Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin, announcing the revised fares.
Under the new structure, bus fares in the Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas have been fixed at Tk 2.70 per kilometer. For inter-district and long-distance buses and minibuses, the fare has been set at Tk 2.40 per kilometer.
Meanwhile, the fare for minibuses in Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas, as well as buses and minibuses operating on internal routes in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Narsingdi, Gazipur and Manikganj under the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA), has been fixed at Tk 2.60 per kilometer.
The minimum fare remains unchanged at Tk 10 for buses and Tk 8 for minibuses in the Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas.
The revised rates apply only to diesel-operated buses and minibuses. Gas-powered vehicles will not be covered by the new fare structure.
The notification also states that if the seating arrangement of a bus or minibus is changed by reducing the number of BRTA-approved seats to provide passengers with greater comfort, the prescribed fare must be adjusted on a pro-rata basis. Approval for such an adjusted fare must be obtained from the relevant route permit issuing authority or the Passenger and Goods Transport Committee.
Transport operators have also been instructed to display the revised fare chart prominently inside every bus and minibus.
Earlier, following the fuel price increase, the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) had proposed an increase of 18 poisha per kilometer for city services and 20 poisha for long-distance buses. However, the final notification approved a 17-poisha increase per kilometer across all three categories.
With the issuance of the new notification, all previous notifications and orders concerning fares for diesel-operated buses and minibuses have been superseded.
