Dhaka, Sep 30 (V7N)- The government has taken an initiative to install 10 dialysis machines in district-level hospitals and 50 in medical college hospitals, Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain said.
The minister made the remarks at a seminar organised at the National Heart Foundation in the capital on Wednesday on the occasion of World Heart Day.
Sakhawat said the government is giving greater priority to the health sector and has allocated its highest-ever budget for health, according to his remarks.
He said initiatives have also been taken to increase the number of beds at upazila health complexes across the country from 50 to 151.
The minister expressed hope that expanding healthcare facilities at the upazila level would help reduce pressure on hospitals in Dhaka.
Sakhawat also criticised the previous government, alleging that insufficient measures were taken to develop the country’s healthcare sector during its tenure.
He further alleged that some medical equipment purchased during the previous government’s tenure is unusable, despite large amounts of public money being spent on the equipment.
Meanwhile, health experts at the seminar warned that chest pain is often mistaken for gas-related discomfort, which can delay medical attention.
They advised people to seek medical advice if they experience chest pain and recommended avoiding smoking and tobacco, limiting excessive salt and processed foods, and maintaining regular physical activity to reduce the risk of heart disease.
