Dhaka, Oct 01 (V7N)- President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for distinguished individuals making significant contributions to the education sector to be evaluated and appropriately recognized at the national level.

He made the remarks when a delegation led by BRAC University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Syed Farhat Anwar paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban on Thursday (October 1).

The President urged both public and private universities to increase research activities. He also said Bangladesh should nationally recognize individuals who have made notable achievements in different fields abroad.

Emphasizing the need to improve the quality of education, Mirza Fakhrul said the education system must be updated in line with the rapidly changing global landscape.

He called for the prompt formulation of policies for a modern, up-to-date and employment-oriented education system, moving beyond traditional approaches.

During the meeting, Professor Dr. Syed Farhat Anwar briefed the President on the overall academic activities of BRAC University.

He said the university is placing greater emphasis on teaching students in employment-oriented fields based on current needs, including artificial intelligence (AI), life sciences, agrotechnology and nursing.

The Vice Chancellor also formally invited the President, in his capacity as Chancellor, to attend the university’s upcoming convocation ceremony.

The President accepted the invitation and assured the delegation that he would attend the convocation.
