Dhaka, Oct 03 (V7N)- Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam has urged the government to be given time and opportunity to continue what he described as the country's democratic journey after 17 years.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a Cleaning Day programme organised by Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal at the TSC area of Dhaka University on Saturday morning.

Addressing opposition political parties, Salam said the current situation was not the time for a "single-point" movement. He said democracy had returned to the country after 17 years and called for allowing the government time and opportunity to continue the process.

He also urged opposition parties to cooperate with the government in carrying out its responsibilities.

The DSCC administrator said political and social organisations should also contribute to civic initiatives and help maintain a clean environment in the capital.

At the programme, DSCC handed over 200 waste bins for use at Dhaka University and surrounding areas as part of efforts to improve waste management.

Salam urged the Dhaka University authorities to take necessary measures to prevent unauthorised hawker activity on the university campus.

He also called on Chhatra Dal leaders, activists and students to play an active role in keeping the university campus and its surrounding areas clean.

The DSCC has been conducting regular Cleaning Day programmes as part of broader efforts to improve waste management, prevent waterlogging and reduce the risk of dengue in the capital.
