Dhaka, Oct 05 (V7N)- Autorickshaw drivers blocked a road in front of the National Press Club in the capital on Monday, protesting three demands, including restoration of electricity connections used to charge their vehicles and an end to alleged police harassment.

The drivers took positions on the road and raised slogans demanding the immediate restoration of power connections. Their protest caused disruption to traffic in the area, leaving passengers and pedestrians facing delays and congestion.

The protesters also demanded that specific policies be formulated for the operation of autorickshaws and easy bikes. They called for legal permits and licenses to be arranged to allow the vehicles to operate under a clear regulatory framework.

According to the drivers, electricity connections previously used to charge the batteries of their autorickshaws have been disconnected. As a result, many drivers are unable to charge their vehicles and continue their regular operations.

They said the disruption has created financial difficulties for drivers who depend on autorickshaws for their livelihoods.

The protesters demanded that the authorities take immediate steps to restore the power connections and address their other concerns.

They warned that they would announce stricter programs if their three-point demands, including speedy restoration of electricity connections, are not addressed.

Traffic movement in the area was affected during the protest, with congestion reported on surrounding roads.
