Bangkok, Oct 14 (V7N)- Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said Bangladesh expects greater support from the United States as bilateral economic and trade relations continue to expand.
“Bangladesh has not received much from the United States in recent days,” the finance minister said, arguing that the growing relationship should bring greater benefits to Bangladesh.
He pointed to Bangladesh’s purchases of aircraft from the United States and imports of soybeans and other products, saying the country should receive more assistance in return. According to the minister, the US Treasury Department had agreed on the matter.
He made the remarks on Wednesday after a meeting with representatives of the US Treasury Department in Bangkok, Thailand. Discussions focused on Bangladesh-US trade relations and issues including debt management.
Amir Khosru is visiting Bangkok to attend the annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Bangladesh is also holding discussions with the IMF over its loan programme and associated reform conditions.
The finance minister said the government was prioritising long-term investment rather than relying solely on loans, signalling its interest in attracting sustainable economic support and strengthening international economic partnerships.
