Dhaka, Oct 16 (V7N)- Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has said police have received no specific threats concerning the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja, but security will remain at the highest level at all puja mandaps across the capital.
“There is no specific threat, but that does not mean our alertness will be reduced. There is no scope for that. We will perform our duties at every puja mandap with the highest level of alertness at all times,” he said.
The DMP commissioner made the remarks during a briefing after visiting several temples in Dhaka on Thursday evening, October 15.
He said police would remain vigilant to prevent sabotage and any attempt to create panic or disrupt the celebrations.
According to the commissioner, the 257 puja mandaps in Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s jurisdiction have been classified into three categories: very important, important and general, based on security arrangements and the distribution of responsibilities. Nine of the temples have been identified as particularly important.
However, he stressed that every puja mandap would receive equal attention from police in terms of security.
The commissioner said CCTV cameras had been installed at puja mandaps where they were previously unavailable, following discussions with the respective committees. The camera feeds have been connected to the DMP control room for monitoring.
He added that personnel in charge of each puja mandap would use body-worn cameras and that the sites would be monitored around the clock through live feeds connected to the control room.
Police have undertaken the security measures to help ensure that Durga Puja celebrations in the capital proceed peacefully and without disruption.
