Jhenaidah, Oct 20 (V7N)- Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman has warned that BNP leaders and activists who oppose the party’s nominated candidates in the upcoming Union Parishad elections could face expulsion from the party.

He said party members would be required to work for the candidates selected by the party, adding that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman would provide guidelines on how to coordinate election activities. He also warned that the Prime Minister would not forgive those who engage in what he described as hypocrisy from within the party.

The minister made the remarks as the chief guest at a discussion with BNP leaders and activists at the party’s Shailkupa Upazila office in Jhenaidah on Tuesday morning.

Asaduzzaman said the Prime Minister’s computer system would contain reports from each union, allowing the party to assess potential candidates and select those capable of winning the elections.

“If my party does not win, then what will happen to a leader like me? If BNP had not come to power today, no matter how great a leader I am or how good a person I am, it would not matter,” he said.

Emphasising the importance of candidate selection, the minister said the party must nominate candidates who have a realistic chance of winning rather than simply accepting the preferences of local leaders and activists.

“You may put forward your preferred candidate, but if that candidate does not win, it will not work,” he said, stressing that the party remained his greatest source of trust.

He also warned against activities that undermine the party’s decisions, saying he would take action if he found members acting dishonestly or pursuing alternative arrangements against the party’s interests.
