Gazipur, Nov 03 (V7N)- Tensions remain high in Gazipur as law enforcement agencies have stepped up security following an attempt by workers to blockade the Dhaka-Tangail highway near the Palli Bidyut area on Tuesday morning.
When workers attempted to block the highway on November 3, law enforcement personnel dispersed them by firing sound grenades and tear gas shells.
Police, Special Reserve Battalion (SRB) and Armed Police Battalion (APBn) members remain deployed in the area to maintain law and order and prevent further unrest.
Additionally, 10 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed to strengthen security. BGB personnel have taken positions at several important locations across the area.
Meanwhile, the Industrial Police said a general holiday had been declared for approximately 200 factories in Gazipur.
However, several other factories remain operational. As a result, workers arrived at their respective workplaces on Tuesday morning to join their scheduled shifts.
Authorities are maintaining heightened security as tensions continue over the workers' unrest, while law enforcement personnel remain on alert to keep the situation under control.
