In just 14 days, through Sunday, at least 15 people lost their lives to heatstroke.

The scorching heatwave sweeping across the country has claimed three more victims of heatstroke, with one unfortunate individual succumbing to the extreme weather conditions, the Health Department has confirmed. The latest casualties bring the total number of heatstroke-related incidents to 34 in the past 14 days, resulting in a tragic tally of 15 fatalities.

In an update provided by the Health Department's control room on Monday (May 6), it was revealed that within the last 24 hours, three individuals fell victim to heatstroke, one of whom tragically lost their life. The deceased individual hailed from Narail, underscoring the widespread impact of the blistering temperatures.

According to official records, Magura has been particularly hard-hit by the heatwave, with seven reported fatalities in the region. Additionally, reports of heatstroke-related deaths have surfaced from various other districts, including Chittagong, Khulna, Chuadanga, Habiganj, Rajbari, Jhenaidah, Lalmonirhat, Bandarban, and Madaripur.

However, it is important to note that the actual number of casualties attributed to heatstroke may be significantly higher, as the Health Department commenced data collection on April 22, approximately 20 days after the onset of the heatwave.

This marks the first time that the Health Department has publicly disclosed information regarding heatstroke-related incidents, shedding light on the severity of the situation and emphasizing the need for heightened awareness and preventive measures to mitigate the impact of the ongoing heatwave on public health and safety.
