State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, Junaid Ahmed Polok, issued a stern warning to mobile phone companies, cautioning them against inadequate customer service provision. Speaking at a briefing held at the secretariat on Sunday, organized in commemoration of World Telecommunication and Information Day on May 17, Polok emphasized the need for mobile companies to uphold exemplary customer service standards.

Polok underscored that mobile companies failing to deliver satisfactory customer service would be held accountable under the provisions outlined in the license guidelines. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring that mobile service providers adhere to the prescribed standards of service delivery.

Addressing the recent confusion surrounding the purported blocking of unregistered mobile phones, Polok clarified that there were no plans to shut down 28,000 mobile sets, dispelling misinformation circulating on the matter. The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) advised consumers not to panic regarding the use of unregistered mobile phones, reassuring them of the situation.

Furthermore, Polok highlighted the importance of verifying the social media accounts and pages of parliamentarians and ministers to combat false information, misinformation, and rumors effectively. He expressed willingness to collaborate on initiatives aimed at ensuring the accuracy and integrity of information disseminated through social media platforms.

Polok also shared notable statistics, indicating that 97 percent of the total demand for mobile handsets is currently met by 17 factories within the country. Additionally, he cited the significant figures of mobile phone subscribers, surpassing 19.13 crore, and internet users, totaling 13.35 crore, in Bangladesh.
