Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal announced that 33.34% of votes were cast in the fourth phase of the upazila parishad elections. At a press briefing at Nirbachan Bhaban, he reported that 28 individuals were arrested, nine were sentenced to various jail terms, and 21 were fined for election irregularities.
Election Commission Secretary Shafiul Azim earlier stated that voter turnout was approximately 17.31% in the first four hours. The elections were held in 22 upazilas on June 9, having been postponed previously due to Cyclone Remal.
A total of 721 candidates competed for 180 posts across 60 upazila parishads, including 251 chairman candidates, 265 vice-chairman candidates, and 205 women vice-chairman candidates. Five candidates were elected unopposed.
