Dhaka, Aug 03 (V7N) – Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), declared on Saturday that the student-led movement in the country is on the cusp of victory. Fakhrul urged BNP leaders and activists nationwide to fully support the ongoing protests.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the Banani residence of jailed BNP standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Fakhrul emphasized that the movement has garnered widespread participation from various sectors of society. "This is a mass uprising," he said. "People from all walks of life, including students, guardians, doctors, professionals, artists, and journalists, have joined the anti-discrimination protests."
Fakhrul expressed confidence in the movement's success, attributing it to the mobilization of the youth. "The movement is driven by a newly awakened populace," he noted. "When the youth rise up, victory is within reach."
He criticized the Awami League government, comparing its actions unfavorably to past regimes and accusing it of severe brutality, including the killing of students and the creation of mass graves.
The BNP leader reaffirmed his party's support for the student movement and pledged continued cooperation. He urged BNP members to lend their full support to the cause.
In addition, Fakhrul raised concerns about the treatment of political prisoners Nazrul Islam Khan and Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, who are reportedly suffering from poor conditions in jail. He called for humane treatment and the provision of necessary medical care to the detainees.
Fakhrul urged prison authorities to adhere to proper standards and cease inhumane practices.
