Dhaka, August 6 - As the political landscape in Bangladesh continues to shift, key figures associated with the recently dissolved government have been arrested while attempting to leave the country. On Tuesday afternoon, Chhatra League's Dhaka University General Secretary Tanveer Hasan Saikat and Mahanagar North General Secretary Riaz Mahmood were detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The arrests took place quietly but without incident, signaling a tightening security situation as authorities seek to control the movement of high-profile individuals amidst the political upheaval. Reports indicate that Tanveer Hasan Saikat and Riaz Mahmood were attempting to leave the country discreetly.
In a separate incident earlier the same day, Junaid Ahmed Palak, the former State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and a member of the dissolved 12th National Assembly, was also detained. He was apprehended from the VIP lounge of Shahjalal International Airport around 3 PM.
These arrests underscore the ongoing efforts by the authorities to manage the fallout from the recent resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the subsequent formation of an interim government. The detained individuals are prominent figures, and their arrests mark a significant development in the current political scenario.
