Dhaka, Sept 5 (V7N): In an interview with PTI, Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus suggested that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina should have remained quiet during her stay in India until Bangladesh officially seeks her extradition.

Yunus expressed concern over Hasina's political statements made while in India, describing them as "unfriendly." He remarked, "No one is comfortable with her stance there because we want her back to stand trial. Had she stayed silent, people might have moved on. But from India, she is speaking and giving directions, which no one appreciates."

He further emphasized that Hasina's continued comments from India are problematic, given her current status as a fugitive following the people's uprising. "She fled after public anger, and now, from India, she is campaigning. It's not a normal course of events," Yunus explained to PTI.

Yunus referred specifically to Hasina's statement on August 13, where she called for "justice" and demanded punishment for those involved in what she termed "terror acts" and vandalism.

Additionally, Yunus urged India to rethink its narrative regarding Hasina's leadership, arguing that Bangladesh's stability should not be solely attributed to her. "The narrative that everyone, except Hasina, is an Islamist needs to change. Bangladesh, like any nation, should not be oversimplified as a place only stable under one leader," he added.

Touching on alleged attacks on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, Yunus dismissed these concerns as exaggerated, calling them "excuses" and asserting that the minority issue is being used to deflect from other matters.

Hasina fled to India on August 5 following a national protest triggered by a student movement, and her diplomatic passport, along with her family's, has since been revoked by Bangladesh. The growing calls for her extradition and questions about her legal status in India continue to intensify.
