Dhaka, Sep 18 (V7N): Japanese Ambassador Iwama Kiminori has requested the support of the Bangladesh Army to ensure the safety of Japanese nationals and companies operating in Bangladesh. This request was made during a meeting with Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman on Tuesday, where both parties discussed various cooperation matters with the interim government.

Following discussions on collaboration, the ambassador raised concerns about the current situation regarding the restoration of law and order, urging the army to provide security for Japanese citizens and facilitate the activities of Japanese companies in the country, according to a statement from the embassy on Wednesday.

The meeting also touched on bilateral defence cooperation, with both sides expressing the intention to strengthen military relations between Japan and Bangladesh.

On the same day, the Bangladesh government issued a notification granting executive magistracy powers to commissioned officers of the Bangladesh Army for 60 days, starting from the issuance date. This decision, directed by the president, aims to assist in maintaining law and order across the nation.
