Dhaka, Sep 22 (V7N)- In the first 21 days of September, Bangladesh received $1.63 billion in remittances, according to an updated report released by Bangladesh Bank on Sunday. Expatriates have been sending an average of $77.8 million per day back to the country.

The report reveals that remittance inflow in September has surpassed that of August. During the same period in August, the country received $1.50 billion. This represents an increase in remittance flow as the current month progresses.

Further breakdown from the Central Bank's data shows that, in the first three weeks of September, $487.5 million was sent through state-owned banks, while specialized banks received $69.8 million. Private banks accounted for $1.07 billion in remittances, and $4.3 million was remitted via foreign banks.

Additionally, between September 15 and 21, a total of $467.3 million was sent to Bangladesh, compared to $582.6 million sent between September 8 and 14. In the first week of the month, expatriates remitted $584.5 million to their home country.

In the previous fiscal year, Bangladesh experienced a dip in remittances, with the lowest amount recorded in the first month of the current financial year, totaling $1.91 billion. However, in August, the highest remittance inflow since the interim government took over amounted to $2.22 billion.

The steady rise in remittances indicates improving confidence among expatriates, reflecting a positive outlook for the country's foreign currency reserves.
