Dhaka, Aug 20 (V7N) – The Election Commission (EC) has removed passport requirements for expatriates wishing to become voters, simplifying the registration process.

Under the newly amended Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), expatriates without a passport can now register by submitting a certificate from three Bangladeshi expatriates with NIDs residing in the same country, along with relevant documents proving voter identity. Additional documents can be submitted directly to registration centers or via a representative in Bangladesh.

Currently, the EC is conducting voter registration activities through embassies in 16 stations across nine countries, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the UK, Italy, Kuwait, Qatar, Malaysia, Australia, and Canada. Around 50,000 applications have already been received from these countries.
