Dhaka, Oct 19 (V7N)- Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has called for religious and social harmony throughout the year, saying the spirit of unity and coexistence seen during Durga Puja should be reflected in everyday life.

He made the remarks while visiting the Banani Durga Puja mandap in Dhaka on Monday morning.

Trivedi said this year’s autumn Durga Puja was being celebrated in Bangladesh in a colourful and harmonious atmosphere. He stressed that building harmony in the country required peaceful coexistence among people regardless of their religion or caste.

The Indian High Commissioner said he had visited the puja mandap not merely in his official capacity but as a member of the wider family, wishing to share in the festival’s joy.

He also expressed hope that the Durga Puja celebrations across Bangladesh would conclude in a festive and peaceful atmosphere.

Meanwhile, Monday marked Mahashtami, one of the significant days of the autumn Durga Puja celebrations. Worship of Goddess Durga continued from the morning at the Ramakrishna Mission in the capital through traditional religious rituals.

Kumari Puja was among the major attractions of Ashtami. During the ritual, a young girl is worshipped as a manifestation of the divine feminine, symbolising reverence for women and feminine power.
