Dhaka, Oct 19 (V7N)- Mahashtami, the eighth day of the autumn Durga Puja festival, is being observed across Bangladesh on Monday with religious rituals and prayers, while Kumari Puja remains one of the day’s main attractions.
At the Ramakrishna Mission in the capital, devotees gathered in the morning for Chandipath, Pushpanjali and other traditional ceremonies. The special Kumari Puja is being held to honour the divine feminine power believed to be manifested in women.
According to Hindu religious tradition, a girl between one and 16 years of age may be worshipped as Kumari, symbolising the power of the goddess Mahamaya. Devotees offer prayers and seek blessings during the ceremony.
Religious rituals at the Ramakrishna Mission began before sunrise with Kalparambha and other observances associated with Mahashtami. The Kumari was scheduled to be seated for worship at 9:30 am, followed by offerings and other ceremonial rites.
The day holds special significance for devotees, who believe that worshipping the goddess in her Kumari form expresses reverence for feminine power and purity.
After the ceremony, devotees received blessings from Kumari Devi as part of the traditional observance of Mahashtami.
