Dhaka, Nov 13 (V7N)- Bangladesh has received over $7 billion in remittances from its expatriate citizens over the past three months, according to official data. A progress report detailing the activities of various ministries and divisions highlighted that the total remittance amounted to $7.02 billion during this period.

The report was shared by the Chief Adviser's Press Wing to mark the three-month anniversary of the interim government led by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Over the last three months, a total of 222,821 Bangladeshi workers migrated abroad, with 4,426 workers traveling under the Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited.

The Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment highlighted several key support initiatives for migrant workers. The interim government provided approximately Tk34 crore in financial assistance to the families of deceased migrant workers, offering Tk3 lakh to each family. Additionally, Tk1.88 crore was allocated to support the treatment of injured or ill workers, while Tk4.32 crore was given to cover funeral and body repatriation costs.

Insurance payouts totaled Tk12.39 crore for families of deceased workers, and nearly Tk1.97 crore was distributed as educational assistance for the children of migrant workers. Furthermore, Tk216.33 crore in housing loans was granted to 9,989 workers through Probashi Kallyan Bank, and Tk22.89 crore in rehabilitation loans was disbursed to 811 expatriate workers.

In a bid to further streamline services, the authorities have initiated a digital platform to manage overseas employment activities and launched a Probashi Support Centre to address grievances and provide assistance to migrant workers.

Additionally, on October 5, the Wage Earners' Welfare Board (WEWB) signed a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) with the Malaysian Social Security Organization (PERKESO) to extend various benefits to Bangladeshi migrant workers in Malaysia.
