Dhaka, Jan 20 (V7N) — Job aspirants have once again taken to the streets demanding the maximum age limit for entry into government jobs be raised to 35 for men and 37 for women.
On Monday, at around 11:30am, hundreds of protesters first gathered in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh. Later, at around 3:30pm, they began marching towards the Secretariat. Upon reaching the area near the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education via Doel Chattar, they encountered police resistance.
The protesters then staged a sit-in protest, causing the road from the Directorate of Education to the GPO to be blocked. After staying there for some time, the protesters vacated the road after announcing their next course of action.
During the protest, participants were seen chanting slogans like “One demand, one goal, 35; 35,” “The fire is ablaze, the blood is boiling,” “The blood of my brothers, the blood of my sisters—will not go in vain,” and “Ignite, ignite, set it ablaze.”
Job aspirants have been demanding an increase in the age limit for government job entry for a long time. However, their demand has never been addressed by any previous government.
Following the political shift on August 5 last year, the interim government decided to raise the maximum age limit for entry into government jobs from 30 to 32, after protests resumed over this demand.
However, the "Coordination Council of General Students Expecting Age Limit of 35 for Job Applications" has rejected this decision by the government.
