Dhaka, Apr 06 (V7N) – On the final day of the Eid holiday, thousands of passengers experienced frustration due to significant delays in train schedules, with several major services arriving and departing two to three hours late at Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital.

Among the delayed trains, the Rangpur Express and Burimari Express were notably late, reaching Dhaka three and two hours behind schedule, respectively. Despite their anticipation of a smooth return, travelers were met with delays, uncertainty, and even overcrowding—a number of passengers were seen traveling on the roofs of trains, risking their safety to return home or resume work in the city.

Despite the mounting dissatisfaction, no clear explanation was provided by the Bangladesh Railway authorities for the disruptions. Station staff were seen struggling to manage the crowd, while passengers complained of a lack of communication and basic services at the station.

One elderly passenger returning from Rangpur said, “We started early in the morning, but the train stopped in the middle of nowhere for a long time. No one told us why. It was a miserable journey.”

At Kamalapur station, the scene was a mix of discontent and emotional anticipation. Many passengers, including families with children, waited anxiously for delayed departures. Some who were heading to Chattogram reported that the local express train scheduled for 8:45 PM had yet to depart well past the scheduled time.

Despite the inconvenience, travelers expressed their excitement to be with their loved ones, though the delays dampened the joy of reunion. “Even if the train is late, I’m happy I’ll see my mother tonight,” said a young man returning to his village in Cumilla.

As train delays during major holidays become a recurring issue, calls for better planning, coordination, and communication from the railway authorities are growing louder. Many urged the government to invest more in railway infrastructure, punctuality, and safety protocols—especially during peak travel seasons like Eid.

Without proper explanations or proactive management from the authorities, the suffering of passengers continues to raise serious questions about the efficiency of the country’s railway services during national holidays.
