Savar, Sep 07 (V7N)— Following recent workers' protests, most garment factories in Savar's Ashulia industrial area have resumed operations, with workers returning to work on Saturday morning.

According to local authorities, the situation in the industrial area remained calm, with no reports of unrest since Saturday morning. The majority of factories are now operational, though additional police forces have been stationed outside factories as a precaution. Army patrols are also active in the area to maintain order.

The protests, which erupted earlier in the week, were sparked by demands for better working conditions, including tiffin allowances, attendance bonuses, salary increases, annual pay raises, maternity leave, and opposition to retrenchment. The protests spread across Savar-Ashulia and the Gazipur industrial area, forcing 167 factories to declare a holiday on Thursday.

Superintendent of Police for Industrial Zone-1, Mohammad Sarwar Alam, confirmed that most factories have resumed production as scheduled, with only a few remaining closed. He noted that the unrest had been addressed, and the security of the industrial areas had been reinforced to prevent further disruptions.

The government has initiated a joint operation in the industrial zone to maintain stability, with several arrests made on charges of sabotage. Authorities are working to ensure the continued security of workers and factory operations in the area.
