Yangon, Mar 28 (V7N) – A powerful earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck Myanmar at 12:50 p.m. local time on Wednesday, shaking neighboring countries, including Bangladesh, Thailand, and China.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake's epicenter was located 16 kilometers northwest of Sagaing City at a depth of 10 kilometers. The tremor was strong enough to be felt across a vast region.

While there were no immediate reports of casualties, international media reported that the quake caused chaos in the capital, with roads coming to a standstill and roof pieces collapsing from buildings.

The earthquake was strongly felt in various parts of Bangladesh, including Dhaka and Chittagong, at 12:25 p.m. local time. People rushed out of buildings in panic, but no major damage has been reported yet.

China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) measured the quake at 7.9 magnitude, reporting tremors in Yunnan Province.

In Thailand, witnesses described the quake as so intense that water began spilling out of swimming pools.

Authorities in Myanmar and neighboring countries are closely monitoring the situation for possible aftershocks and damage assessments. More updates are expected as information becomes available.
