Sydney, Sep 11 (V7N)- Rock music fans in Sydney are set for a special evening as Bangladesh’s ‘Nagarbaul’ James and West Bengal’s Rupam Islam of the band Fossils prepare to share the same stage.
The two celebrated rock musicians are scheduled to perform at the Norwest Convention Centre in Sydney on Saturday evening (September 12, local time).
After arriving in Sydney, Rupam Islam met James and shared a video of their reunion on Facebook. Rupam expressed his excitement at the opportunity to perform alongside James, whom he affectionately describes as his ‘Guru’.
The meeting quickly turned into a warm and playful exchange between the two musicians, who reminisced about their previous meetings and joked about how long it had been since they last saw each other.
Rupam also shared a photograph with James on Facebook, expressing his admiration and respect for the Bangladeshi rock icon.
“Long live rock and long live the Guru! We’ve met again. There will be music, too. Sydney—are you all coming?” Rupam wrote in his post.
In the video, Rupam praised James and recalled listening to his songs since childhood. He described standing beside James and performing with him as a special experience that carries significance beyond individual musicians or generations.
James also recalled their previous meeting, saying it had probably been 10 or 15 years since they last met. The two then jokingly debated exactly when their previous encounter had taken place.
Rupam recalled that James had once asked him to inform him whenever he visited Dhaka, promising to take him on a drive around the city. They laughed about the fact that the promised sightseeing trip never actually took place.
“You tend to stay in hiding, you know. You’re impossible to find,” Rupam joked.
James responded that this time he would have enough time to meet, talk and go for a drive together. He also expressed his happiness at seeing Rupam again after such a long time.
Rupam then jokingly referred to James’s smile, saying it was unusual to see the ‘Mahaguru’ smiling so much. He playfully suggested that James was unable to stop smiling because of his affection for him.
The video ended on an emotional note as Rupam sought James’s blessings ahead of their much-anticipated performance.
The concert is expected to be a memorable occasion for Bengali-speaking rock music fans in Australia, bringing together two influential voices from the music scenes of Bangladesh and West Bengal.
