Dhaka, Jan 08 (V7N) — The ongoing cold wave has intensified across the country, with dense fog and cold winds disrupting normal public life. The lowest temperature recorded on Wednesday was 7 degrees Celsius in Srimangal, Moulvibazar, according to the Meteorological Department.
A mild to moderate cold wave is currently sweeping over most districts of the country. The Meteorological Department said the situation is likely to persist for the next few days, with night and day temperatures expected to remain largely unchanged nationwide.
Although the sun appeared briefly in some areas as the day progressed, it failed to bring any noticeable warmth, leaving people to endure the biting cold throughout the day.
The harsh weather has increased the suffering of uprooted people and day laborers, whose livelihoods depend on outdoor work. While winter clothes are being distributed among the poor in various areas, the assistance remains insufficient compared to the growing demand.
Hospitals across the country are also reporting a rise in cold-related illnesses, including respiratory infections and fever. Health officials said new patients are being admitted daily as the cold wave continues.
Authorities have urged people, especially children, the elderly, and those with existing health conditions, to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the cold.
