Dhaka, May 17 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast gale-force winds, rain and thunderstorms in several districts across the country by noon on Sunday.

According to the weather warning issued for inland river ports valid until 1:00 pm, temporary rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty or squally winds with speeds of 45 to 60 kilometers per hour may sweep over the regions of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogra, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Kushtia, Faridpur, Madaripur, Comilla, Noakhali and Sylhet.

River ports in these areas have been advised to hoist warning signal number one.

The weather office also said that the well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining west-central Bay remains active in the same region. In addition, another low-pressure system persists over West Bengal and surrounding areas.

Due to the combined influence of these weather systems, rainfall and thunderstorm activities are increasing in different parts of the country, the forecast added.

According to the latest weather data, the highest temperature in the country during the past 24 hours was recorded in Khulna at 37 degrees Celsius, while the lowest temperature was recorded in Sylhet at 20.5 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the highest rainfall during the same period was recorded in Rajarhat of Kurigram district, where 64 millimeters of rain was measured.
