Bandarban, Jul 08 (V7N)- A landslide triggered by four consecutive days of heavy rainfall temporarily disrupted traffic on the Bandarban–Keranihat road on Tuesday afternoon, leaving vehicles stranded on both sides of the route and causing significant inconvenience to passengers.
The landslide occurred in the Lal Bridge area, where a large volume of soil collapsed onto the roadway, blocking traffic on one of Bandarban's main transport corridors.
After receiving the report, members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the scene and began clearing the debris. Local authorities also launched efforts to reopen the road as quickly as possible and restore normal traffic movement.
Continuous rainfall has significantly increased the risk of landslides across the district's hilly areas. In response, the district administration has urged residents living in vulnerable locations, as well as motorists and travelers, to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions.
The Bandarban–Keranihat road serves as the principal gateway to Bandarban, linking the district with Chattogram, Dhaka and other parts of the country. The temporary closure halted the movement of long-distance buses, freight vehicles and private cars, disrupting transportation until clearing operations could be completed.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast continued rainfall over the coming days, raising concerns over further landslides and flooding in the Chattogram Hill Tracts.
