Dhaka, Jul 09 (V7N)- The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has warned of the possibility of gale-force winds over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas, instructing the country's four maritime ports to hoist Local Warning Signal No. 3.
The warning, issued on Thursday and signed by Md. Tarful Newaz Kabir on behalf of the Director of the Meteorological Department, applies to the seaports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra.
According to the Met Office, a well-marked low-pressure system is currently located over northwestern Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas. The system is expected to move further west-northwest before gradually shifting toward the northeast.
As a result of the weather system, the pressure gradient over the North Bay of Bengal and surrounding areas has intensified, creating favorable conditions for gale-force winds over the sea and along the Bangladesh coast.
In view of the deteriorating weather conditions, the Meteorological Department has advised all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay of Bengal to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
Authorities have urged fishermen, port operators and coastal residents to closely monitor official weather bulletins and follow safety instructions as adverse weather conditions are expected to continue.
