Dhaka, Jul 18 (V7N)- The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Rangpur Division over the next 24 hours due to the influence of active monsoon winds.

According to a heavy rainfall warning issued by the Meteorological Department's Storm Warning Center, some areas of Rangpur Division may experience heavy (44–88 mm) to very heavy (more than 88 mm) rainfall from 9:00 am on Saturday (July 18) through the following 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) said on Friday that rising upstream water and ongoing rainfall have increased the risk of flooding in parts of northern Bangladesh.

The agency said that although the water levels of the Teesta, Dharla and Dudhkumar rivers declined slightly over the past 24 hours, they are likely to rise again during the next three days.

As a result, short-term flooding may occur in low-lying areas along the riverbanks in Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Rangpur, Gaibandha and Kurigram districts.

Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and follow updates issued by the Meteorological Department and flood forecasting agencies.
