Dhaka, Sep 30 (V7N)- The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in five districts due to the influence of a land depression over Myanmar and the adjoining northeastern Bay of Bengal.
The warning was issued on Tuesday by meteorologist Dr Md Omar Faruk of the Meteorological Department’s Storm Warning Centre.
According to the warning, heavy rainfall of 44 to 88 millimetres, and very heavy rainfall of more than 88 millimetres, may occur at some places in Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Chattogram during the 48 hours from 6 pm Tuesday.
The department said the heavy to very heavy rainfall could cause temporary waterlogging in some areas of the affected districts.
There is also a risk of landslides in hilly areas due to prolonged and intense rainfall, the warning said.
Residents in the affected areas have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions based on local weather conditions.
The Meteorological Department is continuing to monitor the movement and development of the land depression and its potential impact on Bangladesh.
